William Leon Morrison Obituary

William Leon Morrison, born July 15, 1940, passed away November 22, 2023 after a five-month battle with cancer. Leon is survived by his wife, Sandy, of 61 years, his children Lesa (Dave) Wilson and Michael (Cathy) Morrison, grandchildren Patrick, Danny and Macy Morrison and Tom (Tatiana) and Elizabeth Wilson, and his sister Anita (Rodney) Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Mary Morrison and his brother, Harry. Leon was a member of the Economy United Methodist Church.

Leon graduated from Economy High School in 1958 and Leon and Sandy married in 1962, setting up housekeeping in the “little brown house” in Economy, before building the long-time family home on Sugar Grove Road. Leon operated the Economy Barber Shop until the 1970s when he began his pet supplies sales career. He always had interest in animal husbandry raising puppies, sheep, Silkie chickens, rabbits, and pheasants, and enjoyed fun and camaraderie attending the annual chicken swap in Ohio. For many years the garage was converted into the “fish room” where he raised guppies by the tankful. Even when times were tough, Leon and Sandy figured out how to take their children to the Great Smoky Mountains, Florida, and the western United States, appreciating the vast beauty of this country. The extended family frequently camped together at Tall Trees and Camp Modoc. Together, Leon and Sandy had many friends throughout Wayne County and Florida where they lived as snowbirds for nearly twenty years. Their fun times together included dances at the Catholic Church in Cambridge City, golf outings to Kentucky, ocean cruises and snorkeling off the island of Tortola, and evenings playing cards and games with friends and neighbors. Leon had a great sense of humor and loved a good laugh. He suffered a stroke in 2001 that left him with challenges in speaking and comprehension. With that event his family saw in Leon his unwavering will to return to an active and joyful life. His family is ever thankful for the many talents, skills, and knowledge Leon shared with us, helping us all to be better people. We will miss him very much.

The family wishes to thank Hospice, the Friends Fellowship community of staff and friends, and the Economy United Methodist Church for their kindness, care and support.
