William J. “Bill” Cowin, 94, of Cambridge City, passed away at The Willows of Richmond on Saturday February 10, 2024, after a short illness. He was born on August 18, 1929 in Shelbyville to Albert and Bertha Cowin and lived most of his life in this area. Bill was four time Past Master of Cambridge Lodge #5 F & AM, Indiana Grand Lodge Area Representative for East Central Indiana, a member of Harmony Lodge #11 F & AM in Brookville and an honorary member of many more Masonic Lodges. He was also a member of Harmony #449 Order of Eastern Star in Brookville.
Bill loved to fish, hunt mushrooms, and bluegrass music. He worked for over 15 years at Perfect Circle and was a UAW committee man, he was an auctioneer and owned a business installing satellite dishes and TV antennas. Bill served our country in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of American Legion Post #333 in Hagerstown. He also was the Democratic committee man for Jackson Township.
Bill is survived by his son, William “Joe” Cowin; a sister, Martha and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary “Janie” Cowin on August 25, 2003; 6 sisters and 3 brothers.
Friends may gather from 3 PM until the start of Memorial services at 4 PM on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. The Masonic Rites will begin with Harmony #449 Order of Eastern Star and Cambridge Lodge #5 will conclude the services.
