Obituary

Thomas Scott Wilson, aged 67, died from complications of diabetes, July 23rd, 2023 at Reid Hospital surrounded by his sister and his two best friends, Steve Frazee and Bill Gromer.

 

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Thomas Dayton Wilson and Julia Ann Wilson. He has one son, Jade Thomas Wilson with Pauline Wilson. After the divorce, Jade lived in Florida and now resides in Denver Colorado. Tom has one sister Rebecca Cambridge of Bloomington, Indiana.

 

Tom was born in New Castle on May 29, 1956. He graduated from Lincoln High School earning the most spirited football player and first place in discus throwing at the Winchester HS Track meet (1974). Tom earned his Eagle Scout. In 1978, Tom received his BA degree in Psychology from Indiana University. During his undergraduate years, Tom played collegiate rugby and met Steve Frazee, his lifelong friend.

 

During the VietNam years, Tom was a conscientious objector. To re enter from Canada, he did community service.

 

Tom’s career in the National Park service took him to Yellowstone, Sequoia Kings Canyon, Redwood, Grand Canyon, Statue of Liberty, Shenandoah, Boston National Historical Park and Yosemite. Proudly, Tom participated in the highly publicized rescue of Aron Ralston. Tom was recognized for his interrogation skills solving many major crimes. Tom retired from Arches Canyonlands, Moab, Utah, returning to Cambridge City, Indiana (2011). Upon retirement, he worked at Wilbur Wright Shooting Range, New Castle.

 

Tom had a wicked sense of humor and multiple hobbies. They included riding motorcycles and dune buggies, the blue driven to Fort Wayne’s Famous Coney Island Hot Dogs, a family favorite. Tom collected slot cars and various types of guns. But of all of his loves, Tom loved his son Jade the best.

 

Tom was an avid Christian who knew where he was headed. We will miss his humor and friendship.

 

A special thank you to the many staff and doctors at Reid Hospital critical care unit, especially Dr. Brat and Dr. Abeyemi. You are appreciated.
