Stephen D. Leverton

Stephen D. Leverton, 77, passed away on Friday September 8, 2023 at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born in New Castle, Indiana on January 30, 1946 to Dale W. and Alice Jean (Kinnaman) Leverton. Stephen grew up in Milton and attended Milton Christian Church. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964. After graduation he went to work in Indianapolis at the State Police Records Division. In the summer of 1967 he started at the Indiana Police Academy and upon graduation started his career as a State Trooper. Stephen retired after 34 years at the rank of Sergeant. He continued his career in Law enforcement as Union County Sheriff for 5 years and then with the Indiana State Gaming Commission until he retired on January 31, 2015. Stephen was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by his children, Dawn Moore, Curt (Mary) Leverton, Chad (Kathryn) Leverton and Mike Leverton; 10 grandchildren; a great grandson; a brother, Jack (Lori) Leverton and his high school sweetheart and companion, Kathleen McCarty Oliver.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Stewart and brother, Jim Leverton.

Friends may call from 11:00 AM until the start of the Funeral Service at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. The Indiana State Police will post Honor Guard.
