Ruth Louise (Shiebla) Doerstler

Ruth Louise (Shiebla) Doerstler lost her battle with Parkinson’s and passed into the arms of Our Lord on February 4, 2022 at The Springs, Richmond, IN where she had been in residence for the past 3 ½ years. She was born in Greens Fork, IN on February 2, 1928, the daughter of Clarence and Helen (Fisher) Shiebla.

Ruth attended and graduated from Greens Fork high school. Upon his return from WW II, Ruth married Roger Doerstler on November 9, 1946. As a lifelong couple, they farmed in the Greens Fork community centered around the farm on which she was born and raised.

She dedicated her life’s work as a farm homemaker and well known teacher of piano and organ to hundreds of students over a career that spanned 73 years. In addition, she was a dedicated member of her church and served in many capacities including many years as organist at Chicago Corner Christian Church and the Central Christian Church, Richmond, IN. Throughout her life, she was active in many church, community and county organizations.

She and Roger were active travelers throughout their marriage. Trips included visits to all the states (except Hawaii) with many winter trips to visit family and friends in Florida.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Roger and a brother, Harold Shiebla. She is survived by children, Jim (Pat) Doerstler, Michael (Nancy) Doerstler, Marvin (Loma) Doerstler and Jo Anne (Dwayne) Crownover; sister, Carolyn (Jerry) Basford and sister-in-law, Carolyn Shiebla. She also leaves 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews and many neighbors and friends. Also her extended families that include the Culys and the Werkings.

Private services will be conducted on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Burial will follow at Greens Fork South Cemetery. Due to COVID concerns, there will be no public calling.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research or to Central Christian Church, 4511 National Road W., Richmond, IN 47374, or the donor’s favorite charity.

The family wishes to extend our sincere gratitude to the nurses and entire staff of The Springs in Richmond for their dedicated care and assistance to our mother over the past 3 ½ years.
