Ronnie A. Richards, 89, of Cambridge City, passed on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at his home. He was born on August 28, 1932 in Hartford City, IN to Everett E. and Helen (Bennett) Richards. Ron was a 1951 graduate of Hartford City H.S. and served 19 years in the National Guard. He married Charlotte M. Baker on July 4, 1952 and together they built a family, home and businesses together.
Ron was a journalist and worked the Hartford City News-Times, Dunkirk Sun and Muncie Star where he was the sports reporter. In 1969, the Richards family moved to Cambridge City and Ron and Charlotte purchased the National Road Traveler, a weekly paper, that under their ownership was given the distinction of being a National Blue ribbon paper six years in a row. In addition they also owned the Beverage Shop for many years. Ron was a member of First United Methodist Church, Cambridge Lodge #5 F & AM, American Legion Post #169, and in retirement worked at Winding Branch Golf course.
Ron is survived by his son, Rodney (Lisa) Richards; grandchildren, Erika and Meredith Richards, Sean(Stacy) and Scott (Shannon) Horan, Sarah (Norah) and Kristen Richards; great-grandchildren, Darbi, Gage, Makenzie, Connor, Aiden and Caleb; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Richards and son-in-law, Pat Horan.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Charlotte M. Richards on October 30, 2011; his son, Rick A. Richards, daughter, Rhonda Horan; granddaughter, Patricia Horan; and great-grandson, Josh.
Friends may gather from 3 until 5 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. At 5 pm will be a Masonic Service, which will be followed by a Memorial Service officiated by Pastor Holly Hardsaw of First United Methodist Church.
