Philip Duane Martin, 80, of Richmond, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2024.
He was born Nov. 30, 1943, to Genieve and Clarence Jesse Martin Jr., and practiced his family's Quaker faith.
Phil graduated from Richmond High School in 1961 and Indiana University Bloomington in 1967, where he enjoyed membership in Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He met his wife, Virginia (Smith) Martin, at IU, and they married at Beck Chapel on campus.
He also earned a master's in business administration at Ball State University.
Phil worked in banking, insurance and accounting for nearly 40 years and also enjoyed working directly with consumers at Achieva Resources before retirement.
He was currently serving as treasurer of Friends of Morrisson-Reeves Library. Previous service included president of Dunn Mental Health Center's board, Senior Opportunities Services board member, United Way loaned executive, Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce’s Redcoats and Richmond parks' review committee.
In retirement, he enjoyed drinking McDonald's coffee and feeding squirrels daily at Glen Miller Park.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Martin; daughter Millicent "Millie" Martin Emery and son-in-law Mike Emery; sister Becky (Nate) Edmonds; sister-in-law Sharon Cox; nieces/nephews Denise (Mike) Murphy, Derek (Dani) Edmonds, Jennifer (Jeff) Seifert, Matt Cox and Fred (Julia) Edmonds and their children; cousins including John Martin II, and friends.
A private burial took place at East Hill Cemetery in Ginny's hometown of Rushville. Ginny's relatives, including her parents, Rea and Evelyn Smith, are buried near presidential candidate Wendell Willkie.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, Nov. 30, at Hayes Arboretum's Turner-Grey Meeting Room, 801 Elks Road, Richmond. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. before a service officiated by the Rev. Mike Booher.
