Mildred Ford Obituary

Mildred Lorene Ford, 91 went to be with her Lord and Savior Jan 28, 2026, at her home with her niece by her side.


 

She was born in McLean County, Ky to Ernest and Mary Ford on Mar 16,1934. Her family moved to Cambridge City when she was 7 years old. She worked at Miller Dairy before graduating from LHS, class of 1952. She landed a job at GTE. Her career began as a switchboard operator in the CC office and she retired from the Richmond office as a managerial secretary after 41 years of dedicated service at the age of 59.


 

Mildred attended First Baptist Church of CC for 71 yrs, being their longest attending member. For the past 14 years, Mildred has attended First Missionary Baptist Church of Dublin. She also attended Cowboy Church in Richmond IN. Mildred loved gospel music and enjoyed singing praises to God. She was thrilled to enjoy The Inspirations in concert Dec 3rd, shortly after her cancer diagnosis.


 

Sept 15 of 2001, Mildred married a grade school crush, Harold Cook and they enjoyed 7 yrs of marriage before his passing.


 

Although Mildred never had children, she loved entertaining her nieces and nephews. She continued that tradition to her great, and great great nephews and nieces. She taught several to play ball in her backyard. Mildred was immensely proud of her family!


 

Mildred loved playing games with family and with her friends at the Golay Senior Center. She was known for her spunky and outspoken personality. She was very competitive, and an authority on the rules of hand and foot. She was a Meals on wheels volunteer for years.


 

Mildred spent her last several weeks at home visiting with family and friends playing games and working puzzle.


 

Mildred was a generous contributor to numerous charities including Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Answers in Genesis, Creation Museum, and the Cambridge City Food Pantry.

Mildred leaves behind her sister Ann Newton (Robert Colen), nephews Jerry Ford, Rick Newton and Gregg Ford and nieces Susan Newton, and Lynette Shorney. Great nephews and nieces and great great nieces and nephews. Along with her special loving and devoted friend Joy Risch.


 

Proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers Charlie and Raymond, nephew Steve Ford, niece Faith Hall, and great great nephew Cooper Newton.


 

The family would like to thank the amazing staff from hospice of Reid for their loving care.


 

Please join her family in celebrating her life and legacy Feb 3rd, 11 a.m. until funeral services at 1pm at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel. Burial at Riverside will follow.
