Maurice Ivan Powell, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Reid Hospital on Thursday, April 30, 2026. He was born on August 14, 1939 in Connersville, IN to Floyd and Edna Beck Powell. Maurice graduated with the class of 1957, a proud Alquina Blue Arrow. On June 14, 1959, he married the love of his life, Shirley (Shug) Hoppes Powell in Alquina United Methodist Church. In 1973 he moved his family to Cambridge City and began his 42 year career as a State Farm Insurance agent. Maurice was a member of the Cambridge City New Day Kiwanis, American Legion Post 122, Eagles and Am Vets.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Shirley Hoppes Powell; children, Tamara Booher (Danny), Von Powell (Brenda) and Peggy Huesman (Sam); 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; a brother, Mark Powell (Kathy); several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Marietta Cloud, Max Powell and infant brother, Merle Neal Powell.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, May 4, 2026 and from 10 AM until the start of the funeral at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, both at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. Interment will follow at Doddridge Chapel Cemetery in Centerville, IN.
