Linda Johnson Obituary

Our friend and sister in Christ, Linda Marie Johnson, age 85, died on September 1, 2025, peacefully at her home in Hagerstown, IN, with her caregivers at her side. Linda was born March 25, 1940 to Earl and Elizabeth Johnson in Dearborn, MI. She grew up in suburban Detroit in Garden City and attended Garden City Schools. At 16 Linda graduated from high school and entered Dickenson College in Carlise, PA, and obtained her BS degree at age 20.

 

After college Linda obtained a position with the Social security Administration as field representative and was in Dearborn for two and a half years. Linda worked in Northern Ohio, Chicago, Dallas and Baltimore regional offices. She was district manager in Parace, Texas for 13 years and finished up her career in Akron, Ohio for four years retiring in 1970 at age 56.

 

In 1970, Linda returned to Wayne County, Indiana to be near her parents. Earl Johnson was a watch maker and in 1966 he and his wife Betty opened the Johnson Jewelry Sore in Cambridge City, where it thrived until the late 70’s.

 

Linda enjoyed singing in the church choir and volunteered her services as the church secretary at Zion’s Lutheran Church in Pershing for many years, as well as being a faithful member. She enjoyed hiking, traveling and was an avid golfer, belonging to Hartley Hills Country Club in Hagerstown. In high school and college she was active in sports. Linda was an honorary member and past president of the Helen Hunt Club in Cambridge City.

 

She leaves behind nieces, Lisa Nieves, Kim Ann Wagstaff,; great nieces, Jasmine Brandow, Crystal Lee Brandow and Deborah Nieves; nephews, Dale Johnson and Eric Johnson. All are scattered about the US, from Washington state to Florida to the east coast. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dale Johnson.

 

Linda was a lady with a charitable heart, always giving to many charities. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of your choice or Zion’s Lutheran church in Pershing, IN.

 

Friends may call from 11:00 AM until the start of her funeral service at 12 Noon on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Zion’s Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown, IN.
