Larry R. Sturgis (77) died suddenly at his home in Cambridge City, Indiana on Thursday January 9, 2025.
Larry was an award-winning amateur photographer with a lifelong passion for books, music and art. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1965 and attended I.U. School of Business, Bloomington (1965-1969).
He was an avid volunteer and supporter of The Richmond Art Museum, Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Community Orchestra, member of Western Wayne Heritage, Inc., past board member of the Wayne County Historical Museum and donated photos to The Women’s Fund Art Auction annually. He was current President of the Friends of the Cambridge City Public Library, a devoted friend to the Dublin Public Library and countless other organizations within his community. He also enjoyed working in his yard and growing flowers. Since 2017 he was the proud owner of “Pork Chop Hill” which he diligently restored to its former beauty. The “Hill” now rings with the laughter of children once again.
Prior to retirement, Larry was the Materials Coordinator for Lee Cylinder, Johns-Manville and Transilwrap.
Larry Sturgis is survived by his wife of 54 years Betty “Bess” Sturgis, his son Will (Tracy) Sturgis, his daughter Erin Elizabeth (Derek) Hammer, his grandchildren: Vincent Hammer, Vivien Hammer, Claire Sturgis, Lydia Sturgis, Eleanor Sturgis, two brothers, Barry Sturgis, Jerry Sturgis and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mae Sturgis.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, January 17, 2025 and from 12 noon until the start of the funeral service at 1 PM on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City, IN. Interment will follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin, IN.
