Kathy "Chris" Wilson (Melerowicz), 66, of Cambridge City, Indiana, shocked us all when she answered the Savior's call, July 12, 2023, since she always maintained that she had been dying for years. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 30, 1957. Relocating to Indiana via Virginia in 1986.
Kathy delighted in her grandchildren whom she mollycoddled unabashedly. Loved dearly her son, whom she placed on a pedestal much higher than he deserved. Oftentimes that pedestal was more akin to the plastic, collapsible, suspicious kind you might find in your local discount store. Any love she had leftover was begrudgingly accorded to her daughter-in-law and caregiver, Erin. She loved Motown and a great party. The kind of party that lasts for years. Her bridled generosity and affection was legendary. She abhorred listening to sound advice or reason, but found doctors with thin prescription pads most contemptible. She had the somewhat onerous super power to make herself the center of attention, for better or worse, mostly the latter. A worldly wise woman beyond her years and a fighter. A survivor. The kind of person you want beside you when the stars go cold and the world is on fire. We loved her unconditionally and conditionally liked her. She always told us we would miss her when she was gone, and she was right. For once.
Kathy is survived by one son Chad (Erin) Melerowicz of Cambridge City, a sister, Sherry Ricketts of Taylor, MI. Former Sisters in Law, Heddy Shreve, Stella Jaksa, Barbara Melerowicz all of Michigan. A special nephew Rich (Niko) Abramski-Cooper of Richmond, IN and a special niece, Shelly Gonzalez of Taylor, MI. Four grandchildren, Jaylan and Andi Melerowicz of Noblesville, Kerry and Nate Melerowicz of Cambridge City. A host of other nieces and nephews, as well as great and great great nieces and nephews she loved dearly. Special friends, Nancy Murray of Indianapolis and Audrey Williams of Dublin, Indiana. as well as many friends.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Sylven Wilson of Exeter, VA and Virginia Scarborough of Detroit, MI. a sister Glenda Cooper and 2 brothers Chester and Andy Wilson, and a granddaughter Mercy Melerowicz. Her former husband and intimate best friend, Thaddeus Melerowicz.
Friends may call from 4-6pm on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City, Indiana with refreshments at the home for those who care to join us after.
A very special acknowledgment to Erin, Sherry and Audrey for their help in taking care of Kathy in her final days. From a grateful son, to his wife and aunt and adopted aunt.
