Judith Godfrey Obituary

Judith Rae Godfrey, age 84, of Fishers, Indiana, died August 17, 2025. She was born July 28, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to John R. and Ella J Bigler. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Judy attended schools in Chicago; Parma, Ohio; London, Ontario; Beloit, Wisconsin; and, in 1959, graduated from Lincoln High School in Cambridge City, Indiana. After living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Indio, California, Judy earned her Bachelor and Master Degrees from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. Judy taught Art for many years in the Western Wayne Elementary Schools as well as in Nettle Creek Junior/Senior High School.

 

Judy was a member of Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, Fishers, Indiana and a former member for many years of Zion’s Lutheran Church in Pershing, Indiana. She served on the boards of the Golay Community Center, the Hagerstown Jefferson Township Library, Hagerstown Parks and Recreation, and the Nettle Creek Players.

 

Judy enjoyed swimming, biking, vacationing on Sanibel Island, reading, attending Bible Studies, and sending cards to family and friends.

 

She leaves behind her children Jayne Grow (Brent Meadows) and Jensen Godfrey (Tricia Henninger), her sister Susan J. Bigler, brother Richard G (Lucretia) Bigler, nieces Kate Bigler and Mandy (Rob) Schluenson and their children Allie and Will, stepchildren Janis (David) Johnson, Laura Wagner, Jeremy (Linda) Hunt, and Aaron Hunt, several step-grandchildren, and dear friends Sue Bigler, Phyllis Churbuck, Kathy King, Diane Kordis, the YMCA Water Aerobics Crew, and a special neighborhood cat Patches.

 

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband John Richard Hunt, daughter Laura Godfrey, and sons-in-law Gene Upchurch and Steve Grow.

 

There will be no public calling. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 2:00 pm at Christ the Savior Lutheran Church in Fishers, Indiana. A live stream will be available at Christthesavior.org Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the Savior Lutheran Church or Zion’s Lutheran Church.
