Joseph Campbell Obituary

Joseph “Jake” Campbell, 83, of Cambridge City passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at The Springs of Richmond, surrounded by his family.

 

He was born on October 1, 1933 in New Castle, IN to Herschel and Vada Purvis Campbell and was a 1951 graduate of New Castle High School. Jake worked as a paperboy for the Courier Times and worked his way up to Head carrier. Jake and Vera moved to Cambridge City in May of 1971. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Jake retired after 30 years from Chrysler in New Castle, as a furnace repairman in 1995. He was a member of the American Legion and loved I.U. Basketball and watching football.

 

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Vera J. “Enochs” Campbell; their children, Jody (John) Younts, Jeffery (Christine Sipe) Campbell, Judy (James) Gerrian, Terri (Shawn) Neil, Toni (Lance) Kerney and Traci (Frank) Johnson; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons who will be born this spring; nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Jacqueline Brammer.

 

Friends may gather from 1:00 pm until start of services at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City.
