Jon A. Higbie, 89, of Cambridge City, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Henry County Hospital in New Castle. He was born in Fayette County, Indiana on July 31, 1934 to George M. and Jessie (Cole) Higbie. Jon grew up in Milton and was a 1954 graduate of Milton High School, where he played basketball as a member of the Sharpshooters team that won the 1954 Sectional Championship. In 1955, he graduated from the International Barber School in Indianapolis and worked as a barber most of his life starting in Rushville, then Centerville and finally in Milton. He also worked full-time at Stant’s starting in 1971 and retiring in 2000. Jon was a member of Milton Lodge #108 F & AM for over 67years.
Jon is survived by his children, Vicky (Robert) Newsom, Jon Higbie, Jr and Vernon (Amy) Higbie; three grandchildren, Clayton (Brittany) Newsom, Jon (Grace) Higbie, III and William Higbie; a great-granddaughter, Lauren Higbie; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, China Higbie, whom passed away on February 18, 2020 and his siblings Melvin, Velita Sears and Faye Robinson.
Friends may call from 4 until 7 PM on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City and a Masonic Service will be conducted at 7 PM. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 11 AM and burial will follow at Westside Cemetery in Milton, Indiana.
