John Phillip Sharp, age 91, of Hagerstown, Indiana, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Monday, January 6, 2025. John was born in Henry County on April 11, 1933, to Alfred and Mildred (Evans) Sharp.
John attended Hagerstown High School and was a member of the class of 1951. He married the late Norma King on December 3,1981. John had three children, Mark (Teresa) Sharp, Cindy (Michael) Hunt and Steven Sharp, two stepchildren, Shelly (Chase) Maroney, Jeff Hicks and eight grandchildren: Nathan (Lynn) Logston, Matthew Logston, Whittney (Brad) Taylor, Ross (Tara) Sharp, Natalie (Matt) Marnocha, Adam Hunt, Tyler Sharp, Peyton Sharp, step granddaughter Tessa Brundick and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Lavina, his wife, brothers Raymond (Pat) Sharp, Roger (Marthana) Sharp, Gerald (Alma) Sharp, and grandson Joshua Hunt.
John served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 stationed in Greenland. John was a lifelong resident of Hagerstown where he worked at Perfect Circle for over 16 years. John was a self-employed carpenter for many years. A skilled craftsman with an exceptional attention to detail, John was an avid golfer and proud supporter of Hagerstown athletics where he enjoyed selling tickets to football and basketball games for over thirty years. He was inducted into the Hagerstown Athletic Hall of Fame for his volunteer service. John also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas.
Friends may gather from 10am until the start of services at 12 noon at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City on Monday, January 13, 2025. Scott Sharp will officiate. Burial will follow in Zion’s Lutheran Cemetery in Pershing. Memorial contributions may be made to Hagerstown Little League or the Hagerstown Athletic Department. Donations to either organization may be sent to or dropped off at The Logo Shoppe (98 West Main Street, Hagerstown, IN 47346).
