Joan Hunt passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born in Milton on August 21, 1932 to Willard H and Ethel Garnelle Davis Barnes. Joan was a Wampus Cat graduating in 1950 from Cambridge City High School. She married Glen Allen Hunt on June 15, 1951 and they had three children, Vickie Jo (Terry) Miller, Sharon Lynn (David) Miles and Michael Allen (Cindy) Hunt; who gave them 8 grandchildren, Staci Saylor, Lance Miller, Brandon Miller, Nicol McCurdy, Kacey (Josh) Troutwine, Whittney (Brad) Taylor, Natalie (Matt) Marnocha and Adam Hunt; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Williams, Phyllis (Norman) Green; brothers, Howard “Bud” (Margaret) Barnes and Warren “Mick” (Barbara) Barnes; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Robert “Billie-Bob”; sisters, Roselyn, Mary, Juanita and Betty and a grandson Joshua Hunt.
Joan had worked as an Avon lady for 30 years, at the Henderson Agency, Decca Records, Phillips Recording and Hills Roses, but her most important role was being a mother. She loved her family and grandchildren never missing a sports event. Joan was a fabulous cook and baker. Joan enjoyed weekend golf outings with Bill & Ann, Mick & Pee Wee, Don & Helen, Ron & Charlotte and Jim & Dollie. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Mother’s Club and life member of Phi Chi Epsilon.
The family wants to extend a special Thank You to her sister Carol who made it possible to get through the difficult days and to AseraCare Hospice who were so compassionate, especially Kenny.
Friends may call from 10 am until 12 noon on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. A private family only service will be held with interment in Riverside Cemetery. After the current Covid restriction are over the family will have a Celebration of Life gathering for Joan. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or AseraCare Hospice.
