Jan Benjamin Horton, 85, of Milton, passed away on March 11, 2026 at Caroleton Manor in Connersville and is at home with his Lord and Savior. He was born in Radford, Virginia on November 17, 1940 to Lacy M. and Mae (Trent) Horton. He was raised by his dad and step-mom, Gwen (Vest) Horton. Jan graduated from Riner H.S. and then worked at Montgomery, Southern States and Christianburg furniture companies in Virginia.
On August 5, 1961 he married the love of his life, Dorothy Mae Gwinnup Horton, in 1962 they moved to Indiana, where they raised their family. He was a good husband, father & grandfather, who loved his family and spending time with them. Jan was always a farmer, however he also worked at Omar Bakery, D & M, Lee Cylinders and was a bus driver for Western Wayne Schools for 19 years. He was a member & elder at Milton Christian Church, belonged to Gideons International since 1998 and was an active member of Milton Lodge #108 F & AM. Jan liked to stay busy, you could find him enjoying coffee hour with his friends or playing Hand & Foot at the Cambridge City Senior Center.
Jan is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy (Gwinnup) Horton, his son Craig A. (Lori) Horton and daughter, Tina K. (James) Gamble; four grandsons, Jaylen Todd, Jacob Anthony & Jansen Alan Gamble and Jonathon Daniel Horton; and many nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kay Howard and brother Jerry T. Horton.
Friends may call at Waskom Capitol Hill in Cambridge City from 1 until 4PM on Sunday, March 15, 2026, a Masonic Service will be held at 4PM. On Monday, March 16, 2026 from 10AM until the start of the funeral service at 11AM. Burial will follow at Valley Grove Cemetery in Milton.
