Gertrude Bertsch Obituary

Gertrude "Trudy" Bertsch, died peacefully in her sleep on January 9, 2010 at Arbor Trace Senior Living Facility. She courageously battled brain cancer since July.

Trudy was born December 29, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri to Gertrude M. Piercey Klotsch and August George Klotsch. She recently celebrated her eighty-fifth birthday.

She attended schools in the Hagerstown and New Castle areas and graduated in 1943 from Chrysler High School in New Castle.

In 1944 she married Donald "Jiggs" Bertsch at Zion’s Lutheran Church in Pershing. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was her husband and family.

She began her career while a senior in high school. She attended classes part of the day, and then worked in a factory in New Castle cleaning ammunition casings.

While raising her family, she worked at and then supervised the Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Cambridge City before taking a position at Wayne Bank and Trust that lasted thirty-eight years. She retired at that time to care for her husband.

Trudy was an active member of Zion’s Lutheran Church for most of her life. She especially enjoyed singing in the choir.

She was a sixty year member of The Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. She also served as Mother Advisor for the Cambridge City Assembly of Rainbow Girls, was a member of the Milton Mothers Home Extension Club, and served as an officer for the Wayne County Extension Homemakers Clubs.

Trudy enjoyed painting, reading, working on jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson, Roger Lee Bertsch.

She is survived by sons Michael "Mickey" Bertsch and Greg Bertsch of Milton, Gary Bertsch of Dublin, and daughter Sharon Fields of Liberty; grandchildren Chris Bertsch and Lisa Clifton, Michelle Charles and April Addarrat, Lori Anne Golliher and Matthew Fields, Kiellee Goins, Zack Bertsch, Ashley Trent,and Brittney Bertsch; great-grandchildren, Trenton Bertsch and Trexton Coning, Austin, Logan and Westyn Clifton, Geoffrey Snyder, Amber Smith and Cory Fulton, Tarek and Malek Addarrat, Braydon, Emma, and Ellyana Goins, Gavin and Aubrey Trent, great-great grandchildren, Adam and Emma Smith; brother , Ernest "Bud" Klotsch, sisters-in-law, Mildred Manlove, Lois Bertsch and Mary Martha Miller, brother-in-law, Amos Bertsch, and very dear friend, Linda Munchel.

Friends may call at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Services will be at Zion’s Lutheran Church in Pershing, IN on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Clark E. Hobby officiating. Burial will follow at Zion’s Lutheran Cemetery in Pershing.

Memorial contributions may be made to Zion’s Lutheran Church, Cambridge City Public Library or to the American Cancer Society.
