Evelyn Murray Obituary

Evelyn Kay Murray age 69, left her earthly home in the presence of loved ones to teach and sing with our heavenly angels on Monday, April 25th, 2022, at IU Med in Muncie, IN.

Evelyn was born September 1st, 1952, in New Castle, IN. to the late Sam & Bessie Callahan. Evelyn was a member of the Lincoln High School Class of 1970. Evelyn leaves behind a loving and caring family. The love of her life of 34 years, David, and her two children Shannon Gebert and Jeremy Smith, and her adoring grandchildren: Devin, Noah and Aubrey Gebert. She also leaves behind her special friend and mother-in-law, Susan Nagy and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Evelyn and David adored their life together. Evelyn enjoyed working with children; she worked 24 years as a special services paraprofessional at Hagerstown Elementary School and was known to her students as “Mimi”. Her real talent was on stage with her voice and personality as the lead singer of the local band “ETC” where she entertained many people in eastern Indiana area for over 27 years. If you knew Evelyn, she personified love, joy, beauty, and hospitality. She was a sensitive woman who provided comfort and support while asking little in return. She had integrity, loyalty, compassion, and confidence with a contagious enthusiasm for living. Her love of nature, friends and family showed through everything she did.

Evelyn was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Durham, three brothers: Ed, Carl, and Jack Callahan and a grandson, Payton James Gebert.

Special thanks to the caring staff in the Clinical Decision Unit and Oncology Unit at IU Med in Muncie.

Her wishes are entrusted to Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel for cremation services and a celebration of life later this summer.
