Ernest E. Barnard, Sr., age 74, of Hagerstown passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at his residence.
He was born on April 29, 1936 in Hagerstown to Clyde and Geneva M. Timmons Barnard and had lived most of his life in the Hagerstown area.
Ernie was a Christian man. He built his families first home in 1966. He retired from Dana Corporation in 1986 after 30 years and then did carpentry work. He enjoyed building and flying remote control airplanes. He was the self appointed mayor of Hagerstown.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Lois "Faye" Oakley Barnard, married July 8, 1955; a son Ernest E. (Teanna West) Barnard, JR; two sisters Esther Ames and Susie (Melvin) Messer; a brother Paul (Sandy) Barnard; several nieces and nephews; and many unrelated family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Charles and sisters Wava Marie and Rosemary.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City with Pastor David Ames officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery in Hagerstown. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.
