Elaine Kay Hammond Gambill of Cambridge City, passed away January 7, 2026 at home after battling with cancer. She was born on May 30, 1965 in Connersville, Indiana to Phillip & Nancy Hammond and lived her life in the Wayne County area. After graduation from Lincoln High School in 1983, she served as a Licensed Practical Nurse for in-home care and then for Reid Hospital until her final days. Elaine’s passion was caring for others, which she truly had in her soul.
Survivors include her husband, AJ Gambill; four children John Wesley Newhouse, Phillip Chase Newhouse, Eric Cole Newhouse, and Gracie Mae Gambill; nine grandchildren; a great grandson; plus a great granddaughter on the way; father Phillip Hammond; sister Karen Sheen. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Hammond, and brother, Eric Hammond.
Family & friends may gather at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City from 10:00 am until start of services at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 10, 2026. Reverend Todd Alexander will officiate the ceremony. Burial at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City will follow.
