Dr. Ralph Eugene Faucett, age 97, died in San Diego, CA on January 17, 2014, but wished of be buried with his parents and grandparents in Zion's Lutheran Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Zion's Lutheran Church, 11515 S. Germantown Rd(2 blocks North of the stop light)., Pershing, IN with Rev. Jerry Mielke and Rev. Dr. Clark E. Hobby officiating. After the service he will interred in the cemetery.
He was a retired Navy physician, decorated Rear Admiral, beloved husband, uncle, cousin, friend and always a true gentleman.
Dr. Ralph Faucett was born on July 28, 1916 to Clark W. and Iva Mabel (Bertsch) Faucett on the family farm two miles east of Milton, IN. Ralph was very active in Zion's Church growing up and it as well as family were important parts of his life. “He was a good student, especially interested in anything medical, very serious, but he could have fun.” Ralph also enjoyed being on the basketball teams. He attended Milton and Cambridge City schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1934. Ralph graduated with a B.S. in medicine in November 1938 from IU Bloomington and a B.A in biology from Earlham College in June, 1939. In December 1942, Ralph received his M.D. degree from IU School of Medicine at Indianapolis before embarking on a 32 year career as a U.S. Navy Physician. He served in combat in the Pacific theater, he had a tour in Japan from 1962 - 1965 and also served state side as Commanding Officer and Researcher. In August 1968, Ralph was promoted to Rear Admiral. In retirement he remained very active in medicine and life.
Dr. Faucett married Elizabeth Carpenter in June, 1941. Their love and romance lasted 65 years ending with her death in 2005. He was twice blessed with two wonderful romances as he married Joan Bowman of Ft. Myers, FL and Lafayette, IN in August, 2007.
Ralph is survived by his treasured wife, Joan and her two sons, David (Brenda) Brunk of Augusta, GA and Randy (Alice) Brunk of Hendersonville, NC; niece Michelle Morgan and his brother-in-law Dr. Morris (Dr. Jon) Morgan of Cambridge City, IN. Ruth (Faucett) Morgan, Ralph's sister died in Dec., 1988.; Nieces, Cheri (Ron) Jones of Brea, CA, Kathie (Robert) Bookwalter of Danville, IL; Nephews, Tom Carpenter of LaGrange, IL and Lee (Kristin) Carpenter of Dayton, OH and a host of grand nieces and nephews. First cousins, Dorothy Smith of Indianapolis and Dr. Mark (Jennifer) Woodward of Cambridge City. Other family and friends including Pedro Leon.
