Douglas Patterson Obituary

Douglas J. Patterson went home to be with our Heavenly Father in the early morning of July 23, 2025. He was born February 26, 1945, to Mark “Pat” & Doris Patterson, who have preceded him to heaven. Doug grew up in Windfall, In & graduated from Windfall High School. He then graduated from Indiana Central (UIndy) & received his Master’s degree from Butler University. He taught middle school science & coached JV/Varsity baseball in Monrovia, In. He also taught middle school science & coached Varsity Basketball & Baseball in Greentown, In. He was later Dean of Boys & Assistant Baseball Coach at Seymour High School in Seymour, In. & ended his career as Assistant Principal /Dean of Students at McCutcheon High School in Lafayette, In. He married his beloved wife, Gloria, on July 3, 1985, combining their families into one. He later retired to Palm Coast, Fl.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria, children, Missy (Brad) Jones, Donald (Cindy) Myers, Shannon (Garry) Laymon, Tim (Michaella) Myers, Shane (Jeffrey) Patterson, Mandy (Adam) Hardebeck, 15 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild & sister, Joyce Clouser.

Doug loved his family so much, enjoying the big group vacations with them in Gatlinburg Tn. He loved doting on his wife by bringing her flowers, going to musicals & taking long walks. He was his kids’ biggest fan, often driving hours just to see them play their sport in both high school & college. He was a proud grandpa & got a big kick out of the morning announcements at McCutcheon, congratulating him each & every time one of his grandkids arrived. He also was over the moon to be able to meet his 1st great-granddaughter.

Better known to his students as “Mr. P”, he was generous, fair, loyal & always there when anyone needed him. He loved kids, animals (their dog, Lacey Lu), McCutcheon HS, coaching AAU Basketball, Bobby Knight, being a “Shipwreck” & watching college basketball (especially when he could watch his grandson coach on TV).

There will be a private service on Friday, August 1, 2025 & he will be interred at South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin, In.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Doug Patterson Memorial Scholarship. Checks can be sent to Amanda Hardebeck (please reference the scholarship in the memo line), PO Box 1005, Greenfield, In 46140 or Venmo @DPatterson_Scholarship.
