Dorothy B. (Bertsch) Smith

Dorothy B. Smith, age 98, of Indianapolis and formerly of Cambridge City, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in Indianapolis.

She was born in Wayne County, IN to Homer and Daphne Dailey Bertsch on May 13, 1919 and lived most of her life in the Cambridge City area before moving to Indianapolis. She was graduate of Milton High School where she served as a cheerleader for the Milton Sharpshooters. After graduation she received her Bachelors degree from Earlham College in Richmond.

Dorothy was a member of Zion’s Lutheran Church and retired from Lincoln High School after working both as a teacher and librarian. Dorothy and her husband Dwight enjoyed square dancing and spending summers at their cabin in Ottertail, MN.

Survivors include her sons, Brent (Yong Cha) Smith and Michael Smith; a grandson Troy Smith; a great-grandson Dwight E. Smith; nieces and nephews.

Including her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Dwight H. Smith on March 5, 1995. They were married on October 25, 1945.

Friends may gather at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from

5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Zion’s Lutheran Church in Pershing with visitation from 10:00 am until start of services. Rev. Jerry Mielke will be officiating. Burial will follow in Zion’s Lutheran Cemetery.
