Dorothea L. (Kenworthy) Oakes

Dorothea L. Oakes, 91, of Cambridge City, passed away peacefully in her home at the Leland Legacy Suites Assisted Living in Richmond, IN on February 28, 2025. She was born on February 15, 1934 in Cambridge City to Harold Russell and Eva May (Weaver) Kenworthy and lived all of her life in Cambridge City and Hagerstown area. Dorothea was a homemaker, loved baking for her family, gardening and tending to the flower gardens around her home. She loved taking care of her grand kids and family whenever she was able.

She is survived her son, Gerald E. (Brenda) Oakes; two daughters, Cynthia E. (Marvin) Oberhelman and Vickie (Rick) Cupp; two sisters, Alice Ladd and Joyce (Ralph Fannin) Owens; a brother, Robert (Connie) Kenworthy; 6 grandchildren, Kelly (Lenny Payne) Limburg, Kyle (Kayla) Oberhelman, Kelsey (Eric) Underwood, Nicholas (Hannah) Cupp, Mia Cupp and Masey; 8 great grandchildren, Sophia Limburg, Brynlee Payne, Anabella Gilpin, Greyson Oberhelman, Killian Oberhelman, Ashley Murdock, Christopher Murdock, and Raven Alexander; 2 great-great grandchildren, Zeek Murdock and Rowin Alexander.

In addition to her parents, Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Marvin L. Oakes on January 26, 1998; her granddaughter, Anna Murdock; 3 brothers, Howard, Ralph and Kenny Kenworthy; 2 sisters, Doris Joyce and Helen Hutchison.

Friends may call from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, March 6, 2025 and from 10:30 AM until the start of the funeral service at 11 AM on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City with Danny Berry officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cambridge City.
