Dick Best

Dick Best, 70, of Hagerstown, IN passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Reid Hospital in Richmond.

He was born on January 17, 1947 in Columbus, IN to George W. and Georgia Mae Foist Best. Dick was a 1965 graduate of Burney High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in 1969. He was a member of Hagerstown Optimist Club, John Purdue Club, and Nettle Creek Card Club. He retired on 12/31/2016 after 29 years as County Executive Director of Wayne County Farm Service Agency. He was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years Nancy J. Best; children David (Traci) Best, Tracey (Travis) Range, Jason (Kristen) Ward and James (Afton) Ward; 12 grandchildlren; brother Tom Best; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 11:00 am at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City with  Gordon Mehaffey officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery in Hagerstown. Friends may gather at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and also from 10:00 am until start of services at 11:00 am on Thursday.
