David A. Lower, 83, of Richmond, died peacefully on August 8, 2023, at his home with his loving wife of 58 years by his side. He was born on June 10, 1940 in Cambridge City to Bernard and Ada (Ledford) Lower. David was a 1958 graduate of Lincoln High School in Cambridge City, received his Bachelors degree in 1962 from Earlham College and his Masters degree in 1968 from Ball State University. He began his teaching career at at Alquina High School and then taught for 37 years at Northeastern High school, where he coached nearly every sport, but mostly football and wrestling.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Anne Lower; daughter, Lisa (Greg) Hublar; son, Craig (Mari) Lower; grandchildren, Amber (Codie) Endris, Mason Hublar and fiance Karly Baumann, Grace Hublar, Jack, Abby, Grant and Mitchell Lower; sister Kathy Goodpaster; and many nieces, nephews, his NHS breakfast buddies, friends and his many former students.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Patricia Haas and Janet Isom; and brother Jerald Lower.
The family wants to extend grateful thanks for the love and wonderful care provided for David by Reid Hospice caregivers, Rebecca, Tracy, Brandi and Dr. David DeSantis.
After a long battle with Parkinson’s disease David often said “I’m winning some of the battles, but Parkinson’s is winning the war”. He was a strong warrior!!!
Friends may call from on Monday, August 14, 2023 from 4 to 8 pm. and from 12 noon until the start of the funeral service at 1 pm. on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in East Germantown (Pershing), IN.
