Darrel L. Briar, 74, of Cambridge City, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at home. He was born in Wayne County, IN on December 11, 1939 to Albert and Margaret (Wissler) Briar and lived his entire life in this area. He was a 1959 graduate of Straughn High School. Darrel was a member and deacon at the Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren in Hagerstown. He retired after working several years in toy production for TEDCO, Inc. Darrel's favorite hobbies were woodworking, camping & fishing, but he most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
Darrel is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marjorie E. (Petty) Briar, whom he married on Aug. 20, 1960; three children, Kent (Jane) Briar of Warsaw, IN, Patricia (Rex) Arn of Van Wert, OH and Brett (Marilyn) Briar of Loogootee, IN; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Kaleena, Joshua, & Jacob Briar, Erin Herbst, Nathaniel, Katelynn & Meredith Arn; three great granddaughters, Jada, Grace & Sophie Briar; four sisters, Donna (Leslie) Ramey, Delma (John) Brown, Diana (Francis) Robinson, Deola (David) Robinson; three brothers, Duane (Linda) Briar, Douglas (Deborah) Briar and Darvin Briar; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4 until 7 PM on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Waskom Capitol Hill chapel in Cambridge City, IN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren with calling from 10:30 AM until the start of the service at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Brick Cemetery.
