Cody Steele Obituary

Our son, Cody Shane Steele was born on May 13, 1991 in Richmond, Indiana to Leon and Karen Steele. He passed away from this life on April 5, 2022, from a self-inflicted injury. Cody leaves behind a loving and caring family. His two children, 8 yr. old Gibson and 3 yr. old Annalise who reside with their mom, Krista Durham; his parents Leon & Karen Steele; 7 siblings, Elijah (Carrie), Jonas (Ashley), Jordan, Brooke (Holden) Stephens, Tyler (Ana), Garrett (Deziree) and Mikayla.; and his maternal grandma, Carol Anderson. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Henry Anderson, grandmother, Helen Rae Steele, grandfather, Estill Louis Steele and great grandmother, Lille Mae Brandenburg.

Cody was very bright and articulate child, who thrived growing up in a home with his siblings. He was always taking things apart and wanting to know how everything worked. Cody was a gifted artist & musician having taught himself to play several instruments and shared that knowledge with others. He was an avid reader and loved the Harry Potter series. Cody was also gifted in crocheting and cooking and his biggest accomplishment in life was having his two children and spending quality time with them. That was his greatest joy. He was a very devoted father.

As a young adult Cody lived in Stanton, KY, where he attended Powell County Middle and High School. He had tons of close friends there, especially Jerri and Kyle Lucas, Jacob Morton and Darren Trent. Cody attended Stanton Church of Christ with his family and worked at Natural Bridge Skylift. He moved back to Indiana with his family at the end of his Senior year and graduated from Lincoln High School in 2009. We worked Rihms grocery store until they closed, at Wal-Mart in Connersville and the last couple of years at Wolverine Worldwide online at his home.

We all wish we could have been able to reach Cody and help him through his struggles and demons that he lived with daily. The last few months, he quit his job, pushed away and alienated everyone from his life. He was alone, except for visits with his children. Cody sent last wishes to his kids mother. We can’t even begin to imagine the raw emotion and pain he went through those last few minutes on this earth alone. His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of his family and friends who love him and wanted to help Cody so many times, but he shut all of us out.

Please check on your friends, siblings, children and anyone you feel is struggling mentally. Make sure they are okay. Even when they push you away. If they are suicidal, call 911 right away. You may save their life. Mental Illness is a disease and people can hide it very well.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out. We Love everyone of you.
