Charles Locke Obituary

Charles R. Locke, 89, of Cambridge City passed away Monday, April 28, 2014, at Reid Hospital in Richmond.

 

He was born June 19, 1924, in Pershing, Indiana, to Chauncey and Mildred Boughner Locke. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942 and Butler University in 1953. He flew 19 missions over Germany as a gunner on a B26 during WWII. During his service, he was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Operations Ribbon, and European Operations Ribbon with 3 bronze stars. Charles retired as a Major in the Air Force Reserves. He worked as materials manager for Wallace Metal Products for 17 years. He was an avid golfer, a member of First United Methodist Church of Cambridge City, and a member of Reserve Officers Association. He was a former member of New Day Kiwanis.

 

Survivors include his wife, Anetha Spaulding Locke; two sons, Gary Edward (Debra) Locke and David Alan (Tracy) Locke; daughter, Linda Ann (William) Cotterman; grandchildren, Thomas Locke, Cheryl (Travis) Frazier, Sarah (Fred) Chou, Laura (Clifton) Barnes, Allison (Jonathan) Archer, and Erin Locke; great-grandchildren, Devin Frazier, Dominick Locke, Conner Frazier, and Maverick Locke; sister, Aileen (Don) Johnson; and nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Shirley) Locke.

 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City with Pastors Dave Galbraith and Adriane Curtis officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery where there will be military services by Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
