Charles E. Burgess, 88, of New Paris, Ohio and formerly of Hagerstown, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was born on September 26, 1931 in Whitewater, IN to Robert J. and Ruby L. (McGunigill) Burgess. Charles lived all of his life in this area. He retired as an electrician from Dana after 30 years. Charles was a vibrant Christian, who was attending Sylvan Nook Dr. Church of Christ and enjoyed family and travel.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Domeika-Burgess; four children, Cindy (Rick) Yeager, Tim (Paula) Burgess, Amanda (Jason) Johnson and Terri (Ken) Frederick; three step children, Earl (Vicky) Collins, Rick (Pam) Van Winkle and Kathy (Dan) Straw: a sister, Virginia (Gene) Hewitt; two brothers, Bob (Carolyn) Burgess and Richard (Remy) Burgess; 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
Charles was preceded in death by his first wife of 59 years, Marilyn (Messer) Burgess; a daughter, Linda Fuda; and two sisters, Alice Hise and Janice Strikeleather.
Friends may call on Saturday, August 22, 2020 from 11am until the start of the funeral service at 1 pm at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. Family and guests will be required to follow State of Indiana COVID requirements for mask and social distancing. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Hagerstown.
