Carol Joan Drake, 92, of Cambridge City, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at her home. She was born on December 17, 1932 in Connersville to Wallace and Garnet (Cherry) Alvey and lived her entire life in this area. Joan married her husband, Al Drake on September 3, 1972. She worked many years as a meat wrapper at Standard Grocery in Richmond. Joan was a lifelong member of Jacksonburg Christian Church. She was a member of the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association, where she served 3 terms as the Wayne County President; numerous times as Club President and as State Representative for the East District. Joan loved her family and spending time with them. She also loved cooking, baking, and tending to both her flower and vegetable gardens.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, George “Al” Drake; her children, Brenda Miller and David (Angela) Necessary; three grandchildren, Sara Necessary, Karen (Ryan) McMaken and Nathan (Maydra) Necessary; ten great-grandchildren and her daughter-in-law, Carol Necessary. Joan was preceded in death by her son, Larry Necessary; grandson, Chad Necessary; brothers, Jim and Jerry Alvey and son-in-law, Bill Miller.
Friends may call from 11 AM until the start of her funeral service at 1 PM at Jacksonburg Christian Church in Cambridge City on Saturday, April 5, 2025 and her interment will be at Jacksonburg Cemetery after the funeral service.
