Bruce E. Johnson

Bruce E. Johnson, 76, of Cambridge City passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield, IN.

He was born on December 7, 1939 in Stillwater, MN to Carl L. and Edna H. (Schmidt) Johnson.

Bruce graduated in 1957 from Stillwater High School and entered service in 1959. He retired in 1979 from the U.S. Air Force at Ellsworth AFB near Rapid City, SD as a Master Sergeant. He later worked as the B-1B Bomber Training Systems Site Manager for Rockwell Collins, Inc. until he retired in May, 2006. He and his wife Mary then moved to Cambridge City, where he operated Ellis Computer Consulting. He was past-president of Cambridge City Evening Kiwanis and past Lt. Governor for the Rose Division of Indiana Kiwanis International. He was on the board of directors for PCCU and a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. He was a lifelong mentor and had a passion for model railroading. Family and community were of utmost importance to him.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary M. (Geary) Johnson, whom he married on November 19, 1977; children, Deborah L. Shurtleff, Carl H. (Michelle Turner) Johnson and Renee A. Judy; 7 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Daniel, Joshua, Jackie, Justin and Hannah; 2 great-grandchildren, Jackson and Madalyn: 1 sister, Janice (Robert) Robinson; 2 brothers, David (Carol) Johnson and Gary (Sandy) Johnson; and nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Ansley Grace Barrett.

Friends may gather at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A mass of christian burial will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 6 2016 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Cambridge City with Fr. John Hall officiating.
