Bonnie J. Grewe, 81, of Cambridge City, passed away at Ambassador Health Care on Saturday October 26, 2024. She was born on January 2, 1943 in Richmond, Indiana to Wm. Lloyd and V. Evangeline (Carter) Craig and lived her entire life in this area. Bonnie was a 1960 graduate of Lincoln High School and on June 10, 1962, she married Benjamin A. “Ben” Grewe. While raising her family she returned to school and received her Bachelors in education in 1979 from IUPUI and later a Masters Degree in reading. She began teaching in 1980 at Fayette County Schools and Wernle Children’s Home, then in 1985 she began teaching at Western Wayne Schools until she retired in 2007.
Bonnie was a lifelong member of Cambridge City Christian Church, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent and with Ben ran the Western Wayne Food Pantry for many years. She was a member of the Helen Hunt Club and Psi Iota Xi, Beta Pi Chapter. Bonnie was the former Jackson Township Trustee, was instrumental in getting fluoride added to the Cambridge City water system and also served on the Library Board. Together with Ben they owned and operated Memories Hallmark from 1994 until 2008.
Survivors include her daughter, Kara Moretto and her granddaughter, Amanda (Hamilton) Moretto Rech. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ben A. Grewe on December 1, 2018 and her son, Tim Grewe on July 8, 2024.
Friends may begin calling at 12 noon, then her Sorority Sisters will conduct a memorial service at 1:45 PM and the funeral service will begin at 2 PM on Friday, November 1, 2024 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. Burial will follow at Jacksonburg Cemetery in Cambridge City.
