Anne Brower Obituary

Anne Elizabeth Brower, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was 89.

Anne was born and raised in Shelby, Ohio, a place that instilled in her a strong sense of values, family, and pride. She often spoke with great admiration of her father, Sergeant Major Evan McNeill, who served under the notable Horace Meek Hickam—a connection she treasured deeply.

Anne’s passion for the arts and education began early and remained central throughout her life. She attended Laurel School for Girls in Shaker Heights, Ohio—an experience she cherished—and later Centenary Junior College for Women in Hackettstown, New Jersey. She completed her Fine Arts degree with a focus on Interior Design at “The Ohio State University”. She was also a Delta Gamma at Ohio State. Anne believed fiercely in the education of women, not only to succeed professionally, but to grow into vibrant, independent thinkers.

The heart of Anne’s life, however, was her family. She was the devoted mother of four children—David, William, Laurie, and Cheryl Brower. She embraced motherhood with strength, creativity, and boundless love, making every aspect of family life her life’s mission. After marriage she lived most of her life in Cambridge City and later moved to Greenfield, IN. Anne was a tireless supporter of her children’s activities, especially through her volunteer work with the Tri Junior-Senior High School music boosters. Whether cheering from the sidelines, helping organize events, or leading behind the scenes, she was always there—present, involved, and encouraging.

Anne had a lifelong love and talent in knitting, drawing, counted cross stitch, ceramics, needlework, quilting and embroidery. She was known for her sharp intellect and deep interest in world affairs.

She is preceded in death by her beloved sons David and William Brower; her parents, Evan and Ruth McNeill; her brother Neil McNeill; and her nephew Steve McNeill.

She is survived by her daughters Laurie Brattain (Frank) and Cheryl Stackhouse (Scott); her former husband, Rodney Brower (Tishca); her grandchildren Catherine Brattain (and her fiancé Zackary Delisle and great grandchild Juliette and Kevin Brattain; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Anne's grace, dedication, and spirit of service will be remembered by all who knew her. She leaves behind a financial legacy donating tens of thousands of dollars to Riley Children’s Hospital and all her colleges respectively.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, May 8 and from 9:30 until the start of the funeral service at 10 AM on Friday, May 9, 2025 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel and a private interment will follow the funeral at Riverside Cemetery, both in Cambridge City, IN.
