LuFreda Bowman, age 102, formerly of Hagerstown passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Heritage House of Richmond.

She was born on August 16, 1908 in Greens Fork, IN to Clarence and Della Rinehart Nicholson and had lived most of her life in the Wayne County area.

She was a member of Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren in Hagerstown. She attended school until her sophomore year then left school to work as a mid-wife. LuFreda loved  embroidery, reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors are a granddaughter Amy (Bart) Meyer and their children Brandon and Kayla; a grandson Brad (Beth) Bowman and their son Chad; special nephews Howard Nicholson and Ralph and Don Thalls; a sister-in-law Dion Nicholson; and several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City with Pastor Paula Ulrich officiating. Burial will follow in Brick Cemetery in Hagerstown. Friends may call from 1:00 PM until start of service at 2:00 PM.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Bowman in 1976, a son Arden L. "Bo" Bowman in 2002, 5 brothers Delbert, Floyd, Clarence, Clifford and Horace Nicholson and a sister Goldie Thalls.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren.

So sorry. It is so hard to lose someone that you dearly love. I''m sure she was ready to go and was at peace. May God give you many happy memories these next few weeks to help your hearts to heal.
