Wanda C. Brinkley, 90, of Milton, IN passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Reid Hospital in Richmond. She was born on June 12, 1927 to Vernis & Ines Leavel Petty on the family farm in Wayne County, IN and grew up in the Webster & Williamsburg communities, where her dad farmed, attended Williamsburg School and graduated from Fountain City High School in 1945. Wanda graduated from Ball State and began teaching at Milton High School in 1949 and she retired from Western Wayne Schools in 1995.

 

She married Ernest Brinkley at Williamsburg Friends Church on February 11, 1951 and resided in Milton in the home Ernie built for her until her death. Wanda was a member of Williamsburg Friends Church, attended Milton Christian Church for over 65 years, was a member of In an' Around Home Ec Club, Carey Club, CWF at Milton Christain Church and Wayne County Retired Teachers.

 

Survivors include four sons, Basil of Denver, CO, Brian (Lynne) of Frankfort, IN, Brent of Milton, IN and Bruce (Debra) of Marion, IN; grandchildren, Andrea (Brad) Burdine, Audrey, Amy, Clark (Brittany) and Cora; brothers, Ronald Petty of Milton, FL and Richard Petty of Denver, CO; nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ernest “Ernie” Brinkley on May 9, 2014; a daughter-in-law, Patti Brinkley.

 

Friends may gather at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 5 until 7 PM and at the Milton Christian Church on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 10 AM until the start of the services at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in Westside Cemetery in Milton. Scott Moistner and Chris Sitler will be officiating.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Milton Christian Church or the Cambridge City Library.
