Alonzo Hernly Boyd Jr., age 80, of Cambridge City passed away at his home on December 21, 2010.
Hernly was a 1949 graduate of Culver Military Academy. He attended Denison University and graduated from Indiana University in 1953. He served in the U.S Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He joined his father at Wayne Trust Company in Cambridge City in 1956, becoming the fifth generation of the family owned business. Since 1968, he has served as President and Chairman of the Board of Wayne Bank and Trust.
Serving the community through successful and secure banking was his passion in life. He maintained his daily work routine at the bank remaining fully involved until his sudden death. Mr. Boyd valued and respected the trusted relationships and friendships of his employees and their commitment to the bank.
Hernly’s legacy includes his vast financial wisdom, unquenchable thirst for knowledge, love of family, the great pleasure found in his many life long friends, and unwavering love of this great nation.
When Lon wasn’t at the bank or traveling with his wife, he found no greater pleasure than playing a round of golf. As the great provider and teacher, Dad found great joy in sharing the gift of travel with his daughters and their families, including a recent 80th birthday celebration cruise.
Survivors include his wife Patricia Hensley Boyd; three daughters: Wendy (Scott Semba) Boyd of Rocklin, CA; Kristin A. (Leo) Scrougham of Brownsburg, IN; and Bonnie (Greg) Kruckenberg of Middleton, WI; stepchildren Cyndi (Kevin) Dukes of Franklin, IN; Randy (Beverly) Shedd of Elliotsville, IN; six grandsons: Matthew, Eric, Samuel, Nicholas, Kevin and Mark; sister Elizabeth (Tom) Graffis of Greencastle, IN; and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Barbara Mueller.
A celebration of Mr. Boyd’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Cambridge City Christian Church with Pastor Robert Rohrman officiating. His burial will follow in Zion’s Lutheran Cemetery, Pershing, IN. Friends may call at the church at 106 W. Church Street in Cambridge City, located at the corner of Foote and Church Streets, on Sunday, December 26, 2010 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family and Dad would be honored by memorial contributions to the new Cambridge City Public Library, 33 West Main Street, Cambridge City, IN 47327.
