Thomas “Keith” Smith, 88, of Cambridge City passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Reid Hospital and Healthcare Services in Richmond.

 

He was born on June 17, 1924 in Carmel, IN to Harry and Nettie Mae Thomas Smith and had lived in Hagerstown until moving to Cambridge City 8 years ago.

 

Keith was a graduate of Hagerstown High School and had served in the Army Corp of Engineers during WWII. He was a retired sheet metal worker from Dana Corporation.

He was an avid debater, mushroom hunter and raspberry picker.

 

Survivor include his wife of 64 years, Mary Ellen (Benson) Smith; children Sondra L. (Bernie) Herrmann of New Paris and Mark (Connie Abrams) Smith of Richmond; 1 grandson Peter Bryan (Kimberly Clarkson) Smith and 1 great-granddaughter Grace Ryanne Smith; 4 step grandchildren Cory Herrmann of Eaton, OH and Kyle (Stacy) Herrmann of New Madison, OH, Brandie Abrams and Richard Bishop; 1 step great- grandson Cole Herrmann; several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Ronnie Smith; 3 sisters Mildred Martin, Rita VanCamp and Ruth Burton; 2 brothers Kenneth and James Smith.

 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, June 22, 2012 At Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City with Pastor Kyle Herrmann officiating. Burial will follow in Brick Cemetery in Hagerstown, IN. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hagerstown or Cambridge City food pantry.
