Darlene Hartsock, 80, of Cambridge City died on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Reid Hospital in Richmond.
She was born on April 3, 1932 in Jackson County, KY to Mack and Ollie (Venable) Strong. She and Charles moved to Indiana in September, 1950 and lived in the Bentonville Community for 41 years. She helped her husband manage the farm operation, taking care of the hog farrowing. Darlene grew a large garden, canning the abundance she grew. She loved to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Quilting was also one of her great loves and making quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 62 years, Charles Hartsock, whom she married on April 22, 1950; a daughter Loretta (Allen) McDonald; a son, Eddie (Delora) Hartsock; three grandchildren – Dewight McDonald, Jennifer (Shane) Baldwin and Rachel Hartsock; four great-grandchildren – Joe and Jon McDonald, Emily and Alexis Baldwin; three sisters – Kathleen (Larry) Garvey, Fern Warren and Lillian Ramsey; many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Juanita Stacy, Harvey Strong, Berlin Strong, Pat Turner and Raymond Strong.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, with call for one hour prior, on Wednesday April 18, 2012 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City. Friends may call from at the funeral home from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Interment will be at Westside Cemetery in Milton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bentonville Fire Department or Dublin Fire Department EMT Unit.
